Buying new equipment is an expensive pleasure, and replacing a unit due to an external defect is irrational. That is why painting a refrigerator is becoming a popular solution for updating the kitchen interior without extra costs.

However, the simple question “what to paint with?” requires detailed analysis, since a refrigerator is not just a metal box. It is exposed to temperature changes, compressor vibration and constant contact with hands. Incorrect composition may crack, yellow or begin to peel off after a couple of months. In this article, we will look at which materials are really suitable for this task and how to achieve factory-quality coating.

The factory coating of a refrigerator is, as a rule, powder paint baked at high temperatures. It forms a durable, smooth, but slippery surface to which regular paint does not adhere well. The main problem during restoration is to ensure adhesion (adhesion) of the new layer to the old metal. Ordinary interior enamels are not suitable here, as they are too soft and will not withstand mechanical stress.

When choosing a material, it is important to consider that the refrigerator body can heat up (especially the side walls of modern models) and vibrate. The paint must be flexible. It is also worth remembering safety: although we are painting outside, solvent vapors should not be toxic, since the equipment is in the kitchen.

Acrylic enamels, alkyd compounds or specialized automotive paints are considered the best choice. Acrylic aerosols convenient for application, but require careful preparation. Alkyd enamels (for example, PF-115) are more durable, but take a long time to dry and have a pungent odor.
