How to determine the year of manufacture of a refrigerator: a detailed guide with photos and diagrams

Did you buy a used refrigerator or want to know the age of old equipment? The release date helps assess wear, predict breakdowns, and even select compatible spare parts. But where exactly do manufacturers hide this information? Unlike cars, refrigerators do not have an obvious plate with the year in a visible place - the data is encrypted in serial numbers, hidden on the back wall or hidden in documents.

Method 2: Quick inspection - where the year of manufacture is written on the refrigerator (4 places)

If there are no documents, inspect refrigerator body. Manufacturers place the date in four standard places:

• 🏷️ Factory tag (rating): a metal or paper plate on the back wall. Look for inscriptions Date of Manufacture, MFD, Year or just numbers in the format YY.WW (year.week).

• 🔗 Barcode: rare, but found in Liebherr - the first 2-4 digits after the country of origin indicate the year.

In 90% of cases, the year of manufacture is indicated on the back wall of the refrigerator in format "YYWW" (year and week) or "MM/YYYY". For example, “2135” means the 35th week of 2021, and “05/2020” means May 2020.

🔹 Why is this important? Serial numbers of refrigerators of the same design may refer to different years of production. For example, Atlant MXM 1806 was produced from 2018 to 2021 - without the exact model, you will be mistaken with the year 1–3 years.

Method 4: Decoding the serial number - algorithms for 10 popular brands

The serial number (S/N) is the “passport” of the refrigerator, which encrypts the date and place of production. The format depends on the brand. Below - current decoding schemes for refrigerators manufactured after 2010.
