Before you start setting up, you need to understand the structure of your unit. There are models with manual adjustment, where you need to turn a mechanical lever, and electronic panels with a digital display. Regardless of the type of control, the goal is the same - creating a stable storage environment.
Optimal indicators for different storage areas
The temperature in the refrigerator is not uniform. Cold air is heavier than warm air, so it sinks and warm air rises. This physical property dictates the rules for product placement. The top shelf is usually warmest, which is ideal for prepared foods, sausages and cheeses that do not require deep refrigeration.
The middle shelves are considered a universal zone. It is best to store dairy products, eggs and drinks here. Optimal temperature in this zone it should fluctuate between +3...+5 degrees Celsius. It is these conditions that inhibit the proliferation of most pathogenic bacteria, keeping products suitable for consumption for several days.
The lower part of the main chamber, often called the “freshness zone” or Zero Zone, is the coldest. This is where you should place raw meat, fish and semi-finished products if you plan to cook them in the next 24 hours. In some models, it may even be slightly below zero, but without the formation of ice, which allows you to preserve the structure of the fibers.
The door shelves deserve special attention. This is the warmest place in the entire refrigerator due to constant contact with the warm air of the room when opening. The door is the only place where the temperature can briefly rise above +10 degrees. Therefore, it is strictly not recommended to store milk, eggs there (contrary to popular belief about special trays on the door) and perishable foods.
Setting the freezer and super-freeze mode
The freezer requires more extreme conditions. The standard value for long-term storage is -18 degrees Celsius. At this temperature, biological processes in products practically stop, which allows you to store meat, berries and vegetables for months without loss of taste.
However, simply setting the value is not enough. It is important to understand the principle of operation of the mode super freeze (often indicated as Super Freeze or snowflake). This function forcibly turns on the compressor at maximum power, lowering the temperature to -24...-30 degrees. It should only be used when loading a large volume of warm or chilled products.
