However, just a hundred years ago, electric refrigeration units were a rare luxury or even science fiction for most of the planet's inhabitants.
The history of mankind goes back thousands of years of surviving and thriving without electricity. People have developed ingenious ways to extend the shelf life of meat, milk, vegetables and fruits, drawing on knowledge of physics, chemistry and observations of nature. These methods were vital, since food spoilage threatened not just discomfort, but real hunger and disease.
