However, you should not focus only on the average value. It is necessary to take into account starting currentthat occurs when the compressor is turned on. It can be 3–7 times higher than the worker, although it lasts only a fraction of a second. If the machine is too sensitive, it will perceive this as an emergency and turn off the power, which will lead to damage to the food.
To calculate the required current, use the standard formula for a single-phase 220 Volt network: I = P / U. If the power of your refrigerator is 220 W, then the operating current will be 1 Ampere. If the machine is rated at 16A, then the RCD must be at least 25A (or 16A, but better with a reserve), otherwise, if overloaded, the contacts inside the RCD may burn out, since it cannot turn off independently during overcurrents.
⚠️ Attention: The RCD does not protect against short circuits and overloads! It only reacts to leakage. Therefore, the combination of “only an RCD without a machine” is strictly prohibited - this will lead to a fire when shorted.
Connection features in the panel
Installation of protective equipment requires compliance with safety precautions. All work should be carried out only after the input machine has been completely turned off. Check the absence of voltage with an indicator screwdriver before touching the wires.
The connection is made according to the diagram printed on the device body itself. Phase (L) and neutral (N) must be connected to the appropriate terminals. They cannot be mixed up, especially in RCDs and automatic circuit breakers, where incorrect connection can lead to failure of the device or lack of protection.
For reliable contact, use special comb busbars or make high-quality jumpers from wire of the same cross-section as the main cable. The wire in the terminal must be stripped just enough so that the insulation is not visible, but the bare part does not stick out outside the clamp.
