The influence of climate class on operation
Each refrigerator has a marking indicating its type climate class. This parameter determines the range of ambient temperatures in which the equipment is guaranteed to operate correctly. Ignoring these standards leads to the fact that the control system cannot properly regulate the on and off cycles.
If the room is too hot, the compressor will work almost non-stop, trying to maintain the set parameters inside the chambers. As a result, motor-compressor overheats, which drastically reduces its resource. In a cold room, on the contrary, the oil in the compressor thickens, and the refrigerant may not evaporate in the required volume, which leads to water hammer at startup.
The main climate classes are divided into four categories, each of which is intended for specific geographical areas:
- ❄️ N (Normal) —the most common class, designed to operate at temperatures from +16°C to +32°C. Ideal for most apartments with central heating.
- ☀️ ST (Sub-Tropical) - subtropical class, allowing you to operate equipment in the range from +18°C to +38°C. Often found in models for southern regions.
- 🔥 T (Tropical) —tropical class, withstanding air heating up to +43°C. It has reinforced insulation and a more powerful compressor.
- 🌡️ SN (Sub-Normal) —extended normal class, operating at temperatures from +10°C to +32°C. Allows you to install the refrigerator in cooler rooms, for example, in corridors.
⚠️ Attention: If only class N is indicated on the nameplate of your refrigerator, installing it in a room where the temperature drops below +10°C may lead to failure of the No Frost system and the formation of an ice crust on the evaporator.
Operation at low temperatures
Using the refrigerator at temperatures below +5°C requires special care. The main problem lies in the physical properties compressor oil. When strongly cooled, it becomes viscous, thick and ceases to effectively lubricate the rubbing parts of the mechanism. Starting the engine in such conditions is tantamount to running “dry,” which causes rapid wear of the piston group.

Risks of use in hot rooms
High ambient temperatures create excess load on the cooling system. When the surrounding air heats up above +32°C (for class N), heat exchange in the condenser (black grille at the back) deteriorates. The refrigerant does not have time to cool down and change from a gaseous to a liquid state.
In an attempt to compensate for ineffective heat transfer, the thermostat or electronic module commands the compressor to operate continuously.
